Prayer

"Prayer is not an attempt to change God's mind.  Real prayer is communion with God.  By it we express our trust in Him, seek to know His mind on the decisions of life, submit to His will, resist in His name the efforts of the devil to frustrate God's loving purposes in human lives." -- Leith Samuel

4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. -- Psalm 37:4

14This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. -- 1 John 5:14-15

Prayer is not a means to use God to get what we want, but a privilege and responsibility of all who follow Christ.  As Psalm 37:4 states, God will give us the desires of our hearts.  He can and will answer prayer, but we must first delight ourselves in Him.  God will answer our prayers when we pray according to His will, and we will know His will better when we truly seek His face, study His Word, and strive to live a life of obedience to Him.  As Elisabeth Elliot once said:

"Prayer lays hold of God's plan and becomes the link between His will and its accomplishment on earth.  Amazing things happen, and we are given the privilege of being the channels of the Holy Spirit's prayer."
